For the Waterbrain park Yixing the concept of a Vertebral bridge is used. The concrete bridge creates a link with the chinese historic stone bridges in the region. The construction does remind of a spine. The play of light and shade and the reflection of the water make the bridge interesting.

The construction of the bridge consists out of concrete pillars that are connected with a wide central crossbar. The pillars split and form a kind of wedge where the bridge deck is laid in. Handrail and pillar are one. The handrail in the left part consists out of concrete chairs where pedestrians can take a rest and enjoy the view from the water.
