For the Hong Kong Flower park Makan was asked to provide an idea for an art installation that connects a formal flower garden with a futuristic modern twist. Its main theme is kaleidoscope. The concept is a giant kaleidoscope made of thermal insulated reflective illuminated fabric in a stainless-steel frame. The fabric reflects the light and manipulates the visitors’ experience of the flower beds. At the same time, it offers the enclosed feeling of an enclosed garden. Visitors walking in a giant flower of the future.

Viewed from above, the installation consists of a huge funnel that unfolds into individual elements. The screens are resistant to wind because the strong material can partially let wind through. The screens break the wind without the occurrence of falling winds and whirls.

From a distance, the art installation creates a feeling of a mirage. The artwork draws the eye of the visitor from a great distance. It adds value to the formal tulip garden and allows visitors to experience the flower garden in a different way.

When visitors look through the hole at the front of the installation the material filters the light, which is reflected at the end of the tube. The arising reflections bounce off the tube as light passes through it. The eye of the visitor sees these bouncing reflections and creates patterns. When the visitors move their gaze through the tunnel, the objects in the tunnel shift and the reflection changes, creating new patterns.
