De Kollenberg pushes towards the centre of Sittard like a green wedge. The high plateaus are distinguished by their openness and picturesque views, and are crisscrossed by sand paths, sunken roads and lines of shrubbery on the hills. Around the plateau, the valleys stretch out of view. On the western side (from Watersley to Rosakapel) the slopes are steep and woody. On the eastern side, the slopes are moderate and more openly spaced. The main attractions to this area are the panoramic views that can be observed.

The vision for the landscape of the Kollerberg is as follows: Maintain the plateaus open and agrarian, and increase their territorial value. Extend the woody area on the steeply sloped west side. Keep the moderately sloped eastern side as open as possible. This slopes will, however, be adorned with shrubbery and plants to prevent further erosion. The area is to become more prominent by fully utilizing its strengths. This means creating sustainable ‘green rooms’ that provide a view from the plateaus.

In the Kollerberg area, several sunken roads have the potential to become important landscape features if they are properly managed. The plan for all the sunken roads in the area is to maintain their historical features and relevance. Furthermore, these sunken roads are ecologically valuable by, for example, creating natural passages for plants and animals.
