Since the publication of the Environmental vision of the province of Overijssel, every spatial intervention is being criticized. Spatial quality is not something you just add on the end of the design process, it requires a different way of thinking and working. This report will question which spatial quality is in our sewage treatment plants (WWTP) and their environment. The focus is creating conditions for this quality in the design process.

By using the spatial quality matrix the entire spectrum of field qualities can be visualized. To concretize the discussion of the spatial quality with the various promoters, the spatial matrix is filled with a balanced set of quality characteristics that will direct or frame the spatial design process.

In the explanation the formulated quality characteristics are clustered in accordance with the four various interests. To emphasise that this interpretation applies to sewage treatments in general, the characteristics still are quite conceptual. For a concrete practical situation the concepts should be further elaborated.

This product questions how the water board most important core tasks, managing water systems:, can realize a more spatial quality around their water works. This booklet aims to inform and inspire the reader how spatial quality in practice can be shaped.

The general spatial quality matrix is modified by the project group to a generally applicable matrix for the water works. To do this, the matrix is filled with quality characteristics, which expresses the spatial quality in their environment.
